We moved into our house 5 days before Christmas. On the day we moved in, I went out to do an errand, and my husband surprised me with a big, fat tree — dragged in and vacuumed up after! — waiting for me when I got home. Nothing better than the smell of pine trees to make a house feel like home during Christmas time! We went wild and put on all of our ornaments. All 7 of them.
The tree, needless to say, was a little pathetic, but we loved it. And, it was in a pretty empty room, so we had to open presents sitting on the floor nearby. But, it’s a great memory. I didn’t want to just toss the tree; I wasn’t ready to let go of a new, special memory so easily. In a flash of brilliance, I decided I’d make myself a cheap, fun Christmas decoration for years to come by making some tree artwork from its branches. Before my husband dragged the tree back out, I tore off some branches and arranged them into a tree shape, and hot-glued them on to white printer paper. And I saw my downfall: the branches will die and turn brown! So, I opted to take a picture of the art instead, which I have yet to frame. I could just frame a picture of the tree itself, but this is much more fun.
